Tamil Nadu Urban Employment Scheme 2024

The Government of Tamil Nadu has launched the Tamil Nadu Urban Employment Scheme. This scheme is aimed at providing livelihood and social security by increasing job opportunities and through the creation and maintenance of public assets. This scheme will be launched on a pilot basis in two zones of the greater Chennai corporation, 1 zone each in 14 municipal corporations, 1 municipality each in 7 regions, and 1 Panchayat each in 37 districts for the year 2024-25. The government has allocated Rs 100 crore for the implementation of this scheme.

This scheme is based on the recommendations which are made by a committee which is led by the former governor of the Reserve Bank of India C Rangarajan. Under this scheme, 50% of the total person’s day will be earmarked for women. Both women and men will be paid equal wages for the same unskilled and semi-skilled work
