The government of West Bengal has launched West Bengal Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme in order to provide basic income support to the female heads of the family. Through this scheme, the government is going to provide Rs 500 per month to general category families and Rs 1000 per month to SC/ST families. Nearly 1.6 crore households in West Bengal will benefit from this scheme. This Scheme has been launched by keeping in mind the state’s monthly average consumption expenditure of a household which is Rs 5249. With the help of the financial support provided through this scheme, 10% to 20% of the monthly expenditure of a beneficiary will be covered. The benefit amount under this scheme will be directly deposited into the bank account of the beneficiaries.
08th Feb Update – Financial assistance increased to 1000 rupees for general women and 1200 rupees for SC ST women
During the budget 2024 -25 presentation, the government of West Bengal announced that women belonging to the general category will now get financial assistance of Rupees 1000 per month which was earlier 500 rupees per month. Also, women belonging to the SC ST categories will now get an assistants of rupees 1200 monthly which was earlier 1000 rupees per month

Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme Rules And Guidelines
The guidelines and rules for West Bengal Lakshmi Bhandar scheme have been announced by the government of West Bengal. Through this scheme, the government is going to provide a monthly allowance of Rs 500 to poor families. Families who belong to scheduled castes and scheduled Tribes will get a monthly allowance of Rs 1000. The eligibility and other criteria in order to get the benefit of the scheme have been issued by the Department of women and child development and social welfare on 30th July. This scheme will come into force on 1st September. It has to be noted that this scheme was a part of the election manifesto of the Trinamool Congress.
All the eligible female heads of the family will get basic income support under this scheme. The financial benefit will be directly transferred into the bank account of the beneficiary. Around 1.60 households of West Bengal will benefit from this scheme.
Rules And Guidelines Of West Bengal Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme
- The amount of benefit under this scheme will be provided from September
- Beneficiaries can get a free Application form from the government camps which are held across the state
- Applicants can make apply from 16th August to 15 September
- All the applicants are required to submit all the required documents which include an Aadhar card, bank account passbook along with the application form
- Those families who have at least one tax-paying member cannot apply under this scheme
- General category women who have more than 2 hectares of land also can not apply under this scheme
- The benefit amount will be directly credited into the bank account of the beneficiary
- The aadhaar number of the beneficiary should be linked with the bank account
- Those women of West Bengal who are permanent residents and whose age is between 25 to 60 years can apply under this scheme
- Women who are having permanent jobs in the private and government sector cannot take benefit of this scheme
- Casual workers can also apply under this scheme.

The main objective of the West Bengal Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme 2024 is to provide basic income support to the female heads of the family. Through this scheme, the female heads of the family will be provided Rs 500 (general category) and Rs 1000 (SC and ST category). Bank Transfers To Begin Under Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme
The state finance department of West Bengal is going to start direct benefit transfer under the Lakshmi Bandar scheme from 1st September. All those women who have applied under this scheme will receive monthly financial assistance which is ranging from Rs 500 to 1000 in their bank accounts. This scheme was the election manifesto of the Trinamool Congress. All those women who do not have a government job and are in the age group between 25 to 60 years will get the benefit of this scheme. Till 31st August, there are about 1.1 crore applications that are received under the Lakshmi Bhandar scheme.
- It is expected that around 2 crore women will benefit from this scheme. The DBT facility will be rolled out from 1st September and scrutiny of the application is still on. After submitting the application form, the beneficiary will be provided with an acknowledgment slip.
- After proper verification money will be transferred into the bank account of the beneficiary. All the beneficiaries can check the receipt of the amount from their banks. The banks will start functioning full-time from 2nd September.
- As many new accounts are being opened due to the Lakshmi Bhandar scheme. Citizens can contact the bank from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
