Telangana Rythu Bandhu Scheme – Ahead of the state’s assembly elections on November 30, the Election Commission of India (ECI) issued a directive on Monday directing the Telangana government to cease providing financial aid to farmers under the Rythu Bandhu Scheme for violating the Model Code of Conduct. The announcement made by state minister T Harish Rao during his campaign on Monday that funds will be deposited into farmers’ accounts on Tuesday, November 28. Telangana Rythu Bandhu Scheme 2024

The Telangana government launched the Rythu Bandhu plan in 2018 as a welfare initiative to aid farmers. It is also known as the Farmer’s Investment Support plan (FISS). Amounts up to Rs 5,000 per acre per farmer every season are directly deposited into each farmer’s account under the initiative. This funding was allotted for the rabi and kharif harvests and was disbursed every two years. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao introduced the programme in 2018, and the state budget allotted Rs 12,000 crore for it.

Rythu Bandhu Scheme Implementation Strategy

  • The government’s Land Record Upgradation Programme (LRUP), which unified disparate data sources on farmers’ ownership of agricultural land, was implemented prior to the Rythu Bandhu Scheme.
  • In accordance with the LRUP, the Revenue Department examined and updated every farmer’s land holding record in the state of Telangana.
  • Under this plan, qualifying farmers were awarded Pattadar passbooks for land ownership by the Revenue Department based on property holding data.
  • A list of 72 lakh eligible farmers was first compiled by the government based on a survey conducted by the Revenue Department. Later on, though, more farmers were added to the list.

  • The agricultural land must be owned by the farmers.
  • Under this programme, commercial farmers are not eligible.
  • Tenant farms or farmers under rental agreements are also ineligible for this programme.
